Support for Scandinavian Buyers in Marbella

Support for Scandinavian Buyers in Marbella

Due to demand for quality properties from the Scandinavian market, we have brought in a Swedish team, able to speak Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. We have also created a dedicated website www.marbellafastigheter.com in Swedish, to make buying a property really easy for our Scandinavian buyers in Marbella.

Our Swedish property experts are Sofia Knutsson and Sofie Eriksson.

Sofia was born and bred in Stockholm, before relocating to the US when she was twelve. After returning to Sweden to complete her studies, Sofia moved to Marbella, and has lived on the coast for nearly ten years. Sofia knows Marbella intimately and is a seasoned real estate professional. She has an eye for detail and quality, an intimate knowledge of the coast and a passion for property. A consummate negotiator and patient to a fault, clients love her calm and efficient manner. Sofia speaks Swedish, English, Norwegian, Danish and Spanish.

Sofie grew up on the West coast of Sweden before moving to Marbella with her family. She has almost ten years agency experience and is a seasoned real estate professional. Apart from Swedish she speaks Norwegian, Danish, English and Spanish.

We spoke to them to find out more about the Scandinavian buyers.

Why do you think Scandinavian buyers like the Costa del Sol so much?

Living in a part of the world where sunshine and warm weather is scarce, Spain and Costa del Sol in particular is a dream to many Scandinavians. They are attracted by the amazing year round climate, which allows them to make the most of their leisure time. There’s a wide variety of activities and things to do and a relaxed lifestyle which they love. It’s also easy to get here, with plenty of flights from most airports in Scandinavia.

What are their favourite areas?

Marbella and Nueva Andalucía in particular are extremely popular. The Golden Mile and San Pedro follow closely behind. For more affordable properties, areas closer to Estepona have recently become more popular.

What do Scandinavian buyers in Marbella look for in a property?

They like properties which are new, or have been renovated to a high standard and have plenty of natural light. Spacious terraces and gardens with lots of sun are also important, and they are attracted by nice views too. As with most buyers, the proximity to amenities and shops is also a big draw.

How do they differ from an English buyer for example?

We find that they are very diligent in their research and come to us with a very clear view of what they want. However, they may be confused with some of the processes.

There are certain differences in how property sales are done in Sweden compared to here that it’s important to understand. In Sweden, the sales agent handles all the legal side of the sale, whereas here in Spain we must hand it over to lawyers to complete the process.

Here at Marbella Living we work with some of the best lawyers in the area, who always represent our clients’ best interest. Our sales agents work closely with the lawyers to provide the clients with the same high quality service and experience that they are used to in Sweden.

Why is it important to speak their language?

Buying a property abroad can be a very stressful process, especially if you don’t feel comfortable with your agent. The laws and buying process can differ a lot from how it is done in their home country and it can be a big help to be able to ask and get answers in your own language if you have any concerns. It also improves the relationship between agent and client and builds trust.

What are your recommendations for appealing to the Scandinavian market when selling your property?

Scandinavian buyers in Marbella want everything to be good quality from start to finish and have high expectations. To get a Scandinavian client interested in your property, it needs to be fresh, clean and nicely styled, without personal items and clutter. Make sure that the photos you advertise with are high quality.  Provide as much information as possible about the property to your agent and on your property listing, as Scandinavian buyers tend to have a lot of questions and are well prepared. During a viewing, open up all shutters and curtains to let as much light in as possible.

Our small group of talented real estate professionals all know and love the area and are passionate about finding the perfect property for our clients. In many cases this means speaking their language and so we have agents who speak English, Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and French. We hope we can help you to find a property in and around Marbella and can match you with an agent who speaks your language. Please contact us and explain your needs and what languages you speak, so we can put you in contact with the right agent for you.
